Few people enjoy going to the dentist, especially
when it is an incident of emergency dentistry
due to some sort of accident or another factor. Accidents and other true dental
emergencies can't often be avoided, but there are several ways to handle them
until you can get to the dentist office.
Prevention is the best policy
It is sometimes possible to avoid or at least lessen
the severity of some trips to the dentist. One example is in sporting
activities. If you or your children regularly play sports, everyone should wear
the special mouth guards made to protect teeth in these situations.
Another way to protect your teeth is by avoiding
activities such as chewing on hard things like ice, frozen solid treats, hard
candy, hard nuts, etc. It's also wise to not use your teeth to open things or
try to obtain the top off a bottle.
To prevent potential badly infected teeth or large
cavities, make sure you brush and floss on a typical basis. This will go a
considerable ways from keeping you out from the dentist chair for any condition
that got to the emergency stages due to not enough proper hygiene.
Unpreventable events
Of course, you can't predict or prevent a real dental
emergency like a tooth is knocked out, a car accident that triggers a dental the issue, swelling in the mouth that happens suddenly, or sudden trouble
swallowing and so forth.
If you suffer one of these true emergency dentistry
issues, you will find things you can certainly do to help as you visit the
dentist office. Like, if you or somebody else includes a tooth knocked out, you
need to get to the dentist within about 30 minutes to save it. One way of
keeping the tooth good along the way would be to either try to place it back in
the mouth (unless there is a possibility of swallowing it) or placing the tooth
in milk or even a saline solution and keeping it there until you're able to
the dentist.
Non-emergency events
Many patients who present themselves to the dentist's
emergency room aren't experiencing emergencies at all. When you have had a
toothache and it wasn't the result of a sudden accident, but you suddenly
decided it hurt too much, that may not be a real dental emergency. It's best to
call the dentist each morning and describe the situation so he can enable you
to get into any office the moment possible. A real case of emergency dentistry
is an immediate event that couldn't have been avoided.
